Stop Giving Up on Your Day Before You Even Start It

Sometimes, when we aren’t feeling good, even something small, like hearing someone arguing, an offhand comment, or accidentally breaking a glass, can destroy our mood, leading us to give up on our day before it even starts. Over time, this high sensitivity to our surroundings builds up to the point where we don’t even want to wake up or do anything. We easily give up on our desires and plans, resorting to unhealthy passive escapism behaviors, such as watching TV, gambling, and overeating.

Having experienced this low level of motivation myself, I can tell you from experience that the best way to handle this situation is to push ourselves forward regardless of how we feel. We need to become action-oriented instead of problem-oriented and, if possible, remove ourselves from stressful situations as much as possible. Often, our situations, although negative and demotivating, have a clear solution, or at least an idea of what it could be, and no further thinking or dwelling on it will contribute to solving our problems faster or more effectively. At this point, we need to focus on action and force ourselves to do things despite everything, especially how we feel.

And while action might not solve all of our problems, there is unlikely to be any positive result without it. Following this logic, we need to have an action plan and bring it to life, even if it may not be immediately clear what exactly we need to do to fix our situation. And so, consistently doing something that we believe is the best solution for the situation may eventually reveal what we actually need to do to get what we want.

Sometimes, the best possible solution, although not easy to implement, is to remove ourselves from the source of the problem. This may involve leaving the house, changing jobs, relationships, or even moving to a different country.

Overall, it may be difficult to regain motivation when we are so unmotivated that we give up on the day before it even starts. However, the solution, at least in part, is to force ourselves back into action and gradually start rebuilding our motivation until we can hopefully find a possible solution to our problems and become happy again.
