Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Roman Russo, Founder, Author, and Chief Happiness Officer at Optimal Happiness. Due to increasing inquiries about my personal and professional lives, I have decided to share more about myself and how I achieved the highest level of happiness. However, I acknowledge that calling myself “the happiest man alive” may not be completely accurate, as there are many other individuals who could also hold this title, such as Matthieu Ricard (a Buddhist), Abraham Salomon Jakubowicz (an Auschwitz survivor), Billy Flanigan (an actor and showman), Martin Seligman (father of positive psychology), and many others.
Nevertheless, I believe I fall within the top 0.00001% of the population in terms of happiness, and I can support this claim scientifically. Science is what has contributed to my happiness, and there is a scientific basis for achieving extreme happiness. Additionally, how many of those who claim to be among the “happiest men alive” can actually prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt?
While physiological tests may be the most effective way to determine true happiness, I can confidently say that I am extremely happy because I use concrete tools in every situation that give me a near-perfect control over my emotional well-being. Even in the face of significant challenges, of which I have experienced many, my level of happiness has never wavered, which is why I have coined this state of happiness as “Optimal Happiness.”
“How did you start Optimal Happiness?”
When introducing myself to someone new, I usually mention that I am a life coach, personal development expert, and happiness coach. However, I haven’t always been happy. In fact, I consider myself an average individual who isn’t necessarily above average smart, good-looking, or otherwise generically blessed. In fact, I was born into a middle-class family, and my parents did their best to raise me, which brought me to a similar level as everyone else. Society played its part in teaching me what happiness is and how to achieve it.
Around the age of 25, I found myself deeply depressed, which motivated me to embark on a journey to resolve this aspect of my life once and for all.
At that time, I had a well-paid corporate job that allowed me to acquire virtually anything my heart desired. I owned a house in the heart of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the latest smartphone, a nice bicycle (no need for a car in Amsterdam), designer clothing, stylish watches, access to vibrant social events, and all the other gadgets often associated with a good and happy life.
However, when I had it all, I realized that this material wealth wasn’t true happiness as I was still unhappy. It was surprising because until then I had believed that having money was the key to happiness. Yet, despite possessing everything I had ever wanted, I still felt discontent. I was forced to confront my internal struggles and acknowledge that happiness wasn’t just around the corner, waiting for a little more money (and everything it can buy) to materialize.
This pivotal moment led me to leave my well-paid job and commit to resolving this issue once and for all.
My Pursuit of Happiness
Over the next 6 years, I uncovered several significant lessons in my pursuit of happiness, such as:
- Happiness is the #1 goal in life, as everything we do is ultimately in the pursuit of happiness
- What happiness truly is and consequently what it take to be happy
- Why are most people frustrated, seeking happiness in all the wrong places, and ultimately adopting a defeatist attitude by claiming that:
a) “happiness is impossible”
b) “we shouldn’t even desire to be happy” or
c) “negative emotions are equally, if not more, important than happiness.”
However, as Henry Ford famously said: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right,” suggesting that this sort of belief is exactly what keeps us from being happy.
After all, despite living in the most advanced society the world has ever seen, every year we set new record levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. So if happiness was ever possible, it is now. However, it is not the case, indicating that something is seriously wrong in regards to our happiness.
Finding the Real Formula for Happiness
However, the good news is that the solution for happiness exists, and it ultimately lies in looking at the finish line – what it really takes to become the happiest person alive, otherwise known as our happiest potential or Optimal Happiness. When we do this, we realize why certain things don’t work and why some are counterproductive. We can then discover the real formula for lasting and unconditional happiness, which is something everyone can learn and apply to their lives.
It’s important to keep in mind that even if we improve our lives by, say, 10%, 20%, or more, we can still fall short of true happiness and end up disappointed. The key is to never settle for a “good enough” answer. So even when we become happier, we should ask ourselves, “Is there more?” and “Can I be even happier?” If the answer is “yes,” then we haven’t reached our full potential yet.
By embracing an Optimal Happiness mentality, we can eventually become the happiest person alive or at least one of the happiest people in the world. This is exactly what happened to me, as I now consider myself part of the 0.0001% happiness elite, being happy pretty much 99.999% of the time.
This statement often shocks people, as they immediately think of all the reasons why this shouldn’t be possible and why it wouldn’t work for them. But it is the truth about happiness. If I was able to do it, so can you. And while it took me 6 years to figure it all out, you can learn the full Optimal Happiness formula in just 8 hours by being coached by me.
Furthermore, once I found Optimal Happiness, I realized that I had something special – the solution to a problem that many people struggle with. This led me to believe that if we have a solution to other people’s needs, it becomes our moral obligation to share it with them. This belief ultimately led to the creation of Optimal Happiness.
Why Isn’t Optimal Happiness Free?
Interestingly, as I embark on the road to share the message of happiness, I realize that I can’t just give it away for free. I still need to sustain myself in order to continue teaching happiness. Money does matter, but only to the extent that it fixes problems caused by a lack of money. Additionally, I know I have something special. Only a handful of people in the world truly understand what happiness is and how to achieve it on a deep level. I am one of them, which makes me one of the happiest people alive.
However, I still lead this blog and share my formula for free on my other social media channels. As success coach Anthony Robbins once said, “the reason I read over 700 books, listened to tapes, and attended so many seminars is because I understood the power of a single distinction.”
Therefore, I am more than happy to give individual advice to people. Although the entire happiness formula, which took me 6 years to discover, learn, and apply to my own life, takes approximately 8 hours to teach, you can start learning it today by following this link.
Still, I’m just putting this out into the universe, but if anyone out there wants to sponsor me by paying €100,000/year, I would be more than happy to start giving away all the good stuff for free.
My Life Before and After Happiness
I don’t consider myself particularly smart, lucky, or privileged. I was born into a middle-class family, I don’t have particularly “good genes,” and I don’t consider myself special in any other way.
My older brother was initially my role model, but lacking strong role models himself led me to realize I was responsible for my own personal development. My parents did the best they could, and society did the rest. This means that I have spent many years unlearning certain bad behaviors while learning others that my family, school, or society didn’t teach me or taught me incorrectly.
One of my initial breaking points came when I discovered the personal development movement and became a vivid reader and learner, but still, no one really had an answer for happiness. Sure, there were plenty of people offering advice such as on:
- Money, which, as we saw, doesn’t ultimately and necessarily transform into happiness,
- Psychology books, which deal with making people a little bit happier or less sad, but again no lasting happiness, and
- Other literature, so I was still forced to create Optimal Happiness.
As such, I realized that either ultimate and unconditional happiness is truly impossible or it just hasn’t been discovered yet. It turned out to be the latter of the two, which ultimately led on a path to teach Optimal Happiness and give more people what they most want, the so-called #1 goal of life, which is to be happy.
