Effect of Veganism on Happiness and Well-Being

Veganism: is it good or bad for you? Will it improve your happiness and well-being? In my research, I found that many topics were too ambiguous and two-sided for a definitive answer. However, with veganism, the answer is clear: we should adopt it in our lives without further discussion.

This is because the benefits of going vegan always come back to one of the following four areas: a) health, b) sustainability, c) animal rights, and d) media brainwashing. Specifically:

a) Health: Numerous studies have shown that a vegan diet can improve overall health, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and increase longevity. By eliminating animal products and consuming more plant-based foods, vegans can reduce their intake of saturated fats, cholesterol, and processed foods.

b) Sustainability: Animal farming is one of the biggest contributors to environmental destruction. The production of meat and dairy products requires a lot of resources, such as water and land, and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Adopting a vegan lifestyle is a sustainable choice that helps to reduce our impact on the environment.

c) Animal rights: Today, we can’t eat human meat due to the universal declaration of human rights which protects human lives. However, we haven’t extended the same courtesy to other animals, insects, plants, and life overall, which is why today we are committing a genocide almost on a daily basis without blinking an eye. Going vegan is a step in the right direction to treating others as we would want to be treated, as it is simply the right thing to do in order to provide universal declaration of all life and enforce it as much as possible.

d) Media brainwashing: Meat eating isn’t a necessity, not by a long shot. We can have a healthy vegan lifestyle that benefits everyone on the planet. The only reason we’d be told otherwise is because a few very powerful corporations are interested in having as many people as possible eating as much meat as they can, in order to make a profit, regardless of the consequences it has on the earth and everyone living on it.

The Vegan Story

As someone who has been a vegan for over 10 years, I initially adopted this lifestyle for its health benefits. However, as time went on, I came to appreciate the importance of the other reasons behind veganism as well. I now believe that the reasons for being vegan go beyond simply abstaining from meat consumption. After all, many people try the vegan diet out of curiosity or because their friends are doing it, but without a genuine commitment to one of the core principles of veganism, they are likely to give up and say “I tried veganism, but it just didn’t work for me” or “my doctor told me to eat meat again.”

When doctors advise their patients not to adopt a vegan lifestyle, I can’t help but think of doctors who smoke. These doctors aren’t following the advice that they are supposed to be giving, and they are probably not vegans themselves. This is because a well-balanced vegan diet can provide all the necessary nutrition without any deficiencies. Therefore, a doctor who recommends eating meat doesn’t have all the information or may not have their clients’ best interests in mind.
