Return-on-Happiness (ROH): Happiness Maximization Formula

Return on Happiness

Return-on-Happiness (ROH) is a formula, which measures how much happiness we derive from any given specific activity. It is a metric underneath all my happiness teachings

We optimize Return-on-Happiness by measuring how much happiness we receive from any given activity. Then, we choose the activity (or activities) with the highest ROH choosing to focus on them.

The idea is that by living our life according to Return-on-Happiness optimization, we will live our best and happiest lives ever! And what else would we really want?

Return-on-Happiness Explained

Return-on-Happiness (ROH) =
Happiness we derive from an activity / 100

Happiness we derive from an activity > is measured on a 100 point scale, 100 being the happiest we can be in any given moment and 0 being the unhappiest we can be from any given activity.

I also recognize that sometimes “how to be happy” is a hard question to answer. For example, drugs will make us happy in the short-term, but unhappy in the long-term. With this in mind, I would also recommend looking at the definition of happiness for a better understanding of what happiness actually means, so it’s easier to assign a value to any given activity.

“The problem is that of optimization,” states Roman Russo, author of Optimal Happiness: The Fastest & Surest Way To Reach Your Happiest Potential. There is plenty of advice on how to be happier or less sad, but no one is speaking about how to become the happiest we can be. And this is the difference that makes all the difference. By not looking at our maximum potential for happiness, we fall short of achieving it. After all, we all have hundreds of ideas on how to be happier or less sad, but most people still feel like they are not living their best lives. As such, Optimal Happiness explores the question of how to be the happiest we can be, regardless of who we are, where we are from, and what our life circumstances are. It proposes a complete and unconditional formula for happiness and explains how you too can become happy today and forever, inviting you to join the 1% happiness elite and become one of the happiest people alive.
