If you think about it, the idea of our whole planet being united under a single flag is unavoidable. As globalization spreads, as the population grows ever larger, as the human race colonizes space, or as some global event will affect us all (e.g., alien invasion), countries will have to come together to bring more unity to the currently divided Earth. This is just a matter of time, as we will see the end of borders and the unification of everything.
The way countries will come together may take different shapes. It may resemble something similar to the European Union or the United States of America, where different parts are legislated by an overseeing establishment. This doesn’t necessarily mean an end to the international divisions, such as countries, culture, and languages, but rather a new way how everything and everyone organizes themselves.
Sure immigration will happen, current governments will answer to a higher authority, and there will be many pissed-off people. There will be racism, armed conflicts, and clear opposition to one world authority. Indeed, there will be a lot of friction before this transition will happen, but there is clear advantages to this united world order under one flag.
Benefits of this new world order include things, such as the end of dictatorships, end of wars, regulation of the international waters, and a more efficient system of world government, as there will be no further need for redundant individual authorities.
Certainly, today we are still not ready for this transition, as politicians, companies, and conservative people will want to hold on to their power. Also, a big challenge will be in making sure that we choose good leadership, someone who is focused on the greater good rather than personal ambition.
There will be many other nuances to figure out as we transition towards the world under one flag. Still, since it is a step in the right direction and it is just a question of time before it happens, we might as well envision and prepare for the future, taking necessary steps in that right direction.
